PROSPECTIVE candidates in the Melaka state election must observe restrictions on campaign equipment and stay clear of designated 50-metre boundaries, the Election Commission (EC) said ahead of nomination day this Saturday.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said candidates who had paid deposits for election campaign materials remained subject to the Election Offences Act 1954 and local authority by-laws, including restrictions on musical instruments, loudspeakers and remaining within 50 metres of the designated boundary.
He urged all prospective candidates and political parties to comply with laws, regulations, codes of conduct and instructions issued by the EC, local authorities and the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure the nomination process proceeded smoothly.
Nomination papers must be submitted between 9am and 10am on Saturday at one of the 28 designated nomination centres.
Khairul Shahril said the papers must be accompanied by the candidate, proposer and seconder, or any two of them, or any one of the three.
Prospective candidates were advised to complete the forms and conduct preliminary checks with the relevant returning officers’ offices or the Melaka state election office before nomination day.
They should also pay their deposits in advance and bring the receipts as proof of payment when submitting their papers.
Candidates representing political parties must submit a letter authorising the use of their party’s symbol, he added. - October 29, 2026
