KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government will tighten conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) starting May 25.
The new SOPs include:
- Food and beverage outlets and stalls, grocery shops, self-service laundromats (with staff), and other businesses may operate only until 9pm (previously midnight).
- Restaurants, including those in hotels, may operate only until 10pm (previously midnight).
- Customers visiting shopping malls, hypermarkets, supermarkets, mini markets and grocery stores may be inside the premises for only an hour. Local authorities must ensure only 50% of premises filled according to its capacity.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun made the announcement today to give the public time to prepare themselves for the updated CMCO rules.
Sabah recorded 136 new Covid-19 cases today, with Tawau logging in the highest number with 32, followed by Kota Kinabalu (23) and Lahad Datu (16).
The state registered a new cluster – the Jalan Mangga cluster in Kota Kinabalu – whose index case involves a 69-year-old man who attended a birthday celebration at the Little Nanyang restaurant in Kolombong. The cluster has since logged 13 cases.
Masidi also urged Tawau residents to register for the Covid-19 vaccination, given that only 12.7% of the district’s 441,774 population have completed both doses.
“Tawau recorded 32 Covid-19 cases today, and has a cumulative 343 cases and 10 active clusters.
“Hence, the government advises the community to register as recipients of the vaccine to achieve herd immunity.” – The Vibes, May 23, 2021
