MIRI – Starting tomorrow, businesses in Sarawak can only operate between 6am to 8pm.

Children below 12 are not allowed to be in crowded public places, and government offices will see 80% of its employees working from home.

The state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat said these are among the enhanced standard operating procedures (SOPs) imposed which takes effect tomorrow.

“To help reduce infections among the public and those at crowded places, the movement control order will be tightened,” it said in a statement, adding that Kuching, Miri, and Sibu have been recording a high number of infections.

The DMC said that Sarawak recorded three more Covid deaths with 530 new infections today. The deaths were that of a man and a woman – both aged 67 years old – at Miri Hospital, and an 82-year-old woman at Kapit Hospital.

“With the latest three fatalities, the pandemic death toll in the state has reached 255,” the secretariat said, in addition to extending condolences to the families of the deceased.

There are 85 clusters statewide now, including the newest one: Selumit Cluster in Sibu, where 11 people in a government office were found to be positive with the virus. Contact tracing and screening are being carried out in this outbreak zone.

Out of the 530 new infections today, Sibu district recorded the most (142), followed by Miri (72), Kuching (68), Julau (45), Sri Aman (14), and several other districts (below 10 new cases each). – The Vibes, May 24, 2021
