KUALA LUMPUR – Top cop Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has written to the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) in a bid to address several allegations raised by his predecessor, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, prior to his retirement earlier this month.
In a press conference today, Acryl Sani said it is best that a third party such as EAIC look into the allegations.
“We are hands off on this matter. It’s best if a third party looks into it as we have nothing to hide.
“This is the question of integrity and transparency. As stated and as seen, even on our uniform, our motto is ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’.
“So, it’s best that all investigation goes to them (EAIC).”
Meanwhile, he announced that the police will be mounting more roadblocks across the country, from 600 to 800, and putting 55,000 boots on the ground.
Some of these roadblocks will be permanent, he said, adding that another 15,000 personnel from the relevant agencies will be roped in to assist the men in blue, making for a total of 70,000 enforcement officials tasked with ensuring public compliance with the rules.
He reiterated that the lockdown is not a curfew, despite most businesses that are allowed to operate having to close by 8pm.
On civil servants going to the office, he said they must show letters issued by their department heads when stopped at roadblocks.
The IGP reminded the public to adhere to the lockdown SOPs, especially those pertaining to movement restrictions.
On the mental health of his officers, Acryl Sani said they are of one mind to enforce the restrictions to help curb the spread of the virus.
“We cannot lose this battle. If we give up, then we will all lose.”
He also said that the force is taking the issue of custodial deaths seriously and admitted that there are areas that could be improved upon. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
