KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 8,209 Covid-19 infections were logged in Malaysia over the past 24 hours, taking the daily tally back over the 8,000 mark.
The death toll also topped the 3,000 mark after 103 fatalities were recorded today, a second straight day of triple-digit deaths.
This takes the nation’s death toll to 3,096, while the cumulative number of cases recorded in the country stands at 595,374.
Of today’s infections, 65 were imported.
There were also 7,049 recoveries logged, while 880 remain in intensive care and 446 require breathing support.
Selangor again saw the highest number of infections at 3,125, followed by Kuala Lumpur (801), Johor (752), Sarawak (594), Negri Sembilan (576) and Kelantan (414).
Those registering less than 400 cases are Perak with 384 infections, Kedah (373), Melaka (322), Penang (303), Sabah (203), Pahang (135), Terengganu (127), Labuan (62), Putrajaya (33) and Perlis (5).
The oldest coronavirus victim is a 97-year-old woman who was dead on arrival at Tengku Anis Hospital in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. She had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure.
The youngest victims are two 27-year-old men. One had a history of obesity and diabetes, and died at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sg Petani, Kedah. The other, with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country has registered a total of 2,261 clusters, including 24 new ones today.
Of the overall number, 1,578 clusters have ended, leaving 683 still active.
Dr Noor Hisham said 19 of the fresh clusters are related to the workplace, community (4) and education (1).
Selangor recorded the Bukit Raja workplace cluster in Klang with 97 infections, and the Jalan Manan 2 workplace cluster in Kuala Selangor and Petaling with 53.
Perak saw the Jalan Tembaga Kuning workplace cluster in Larut, Matang and Selama with 74 cases.
Sarawak logged the Sg Selangan community cluster in Sarekei with 101 cases, while Pahang saw the Batu Hitam community cluster in Kuantan with 57.
