Selangor once more tops table with 1,374 fresh infections, trailed by Sarawak (703) and Negri Sembilan (571)

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 tally continues to drop, with 5,271 infections recorded today.

Selangor again leads with 1,374 fresh cases, followed by Sarawak (703), Negri Sembilan (571), Kuala Lumpur (455), Johor (355), Kelantan (341), Sabah (336) and Labuan (209).

Kedah saw another 194 cases, Melaka (178), Perak (177), Penang (153) and Terengganu (117).

Pahang logged 99 infections, Putrajaya (8) and Perlis (1).

The latest cases take the nation’s total to 622,086.

The Health Ministry also reported 82 new deaths, making for 3,460 virus fatalities since the pandemic began.

The new deaths involved Malaysians except for two victims, the first being a 76-year-old who died at Serdang Hospital with no history of comorbidities, while the second victim was a 49-year-old woman whose remains were brought to Ampang Hospital. She reportedly suffered complications arising from obesity.

The oldest victim, a 96-year-old woman who died at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Baru, had a history of high blood pressure.

The youngest, a 35-year-old woman with a history of obesity, had her remains brought to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang. 

There are a whopping 902 Covid-19 patients in intensive care, of whom 447 require respiratory support.

Another 7,548 recoveries were recorded, making for a total of 534,357.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has recorded a total of 2,361 clusters, including 23 new clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 1,635, while 726 remain active.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 23 new clusters, 16 are related to workplaces, with six clusters from the community and one from the high-risk group.

On new clusters with the highest numbers of cases by states and cluster types, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor recorded the Jalan SS Enam work cluster in Petaling with 31 cases, while Johor recorded the Jalan Perindustrian Tujuh work cluster in Tangkak and Muar, with 16 cases.

Sarawak recorded the Jalan Ilmu work cluster in Miri and the Sg Durin community cluster with 24 cases and 22 cases each, while Negri Sembilan recorded the Industri Kg Gebok work cluster with 57 cases, the highest number for the day.

Johor also logged the Jalan Keranji high-risk cluster in Johor Baru with 28 cases, while Sabah recorded the Kg Bolong Baru community cluster in Kota Belud with 33 cases. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
