KOTA KINABALU – The roof of the popular Putatan Market caved in after strong winds and rain wreaked havoc in Sabah west coast areas last night.
Folks living near the Pasir Putih residential area claimed a whirlwind had ripped open the zinc roof and sent it flying, bending the steel pillars from the strength of the force.
By the time the rain and wind had stopped, a portion of the market was damaged.
“It happened around 9pm, during the heavy rainfall,” a Pasir Putih resident who would like to be identified as Irwan told The Vibes.

Stall operators were instructed to move their goods out of the structure and set up their stalls some 50 metres away, on the side of the road.
The construction of the Putatan Market was completed two years ago and stall operators began to move in gradually to the new market last year. – The Vibes, October, 17, 2020.
