KUALA LUMPUR – A General Operations Force (GOF) unit has been sent to Raub, Pahang, following yesterday’s stand-off between durian farmers and the authorities.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani told Bernama that all the parties involved are urged to resolve their issues through the available legal channels.
The issue of encroachment is under the purview of the Raub Land and District Office and state Forestry Department, he was quoted as telling a press conference at Flat Sri Sabah in Cheras today.
“GOF personnel have been deployed to Raub to ensure public safety. Police will not compromise with those who try to harass the authorities on duty.”
On politicians who crossed state and district lines to show up in support of 18 durian farmers arrested for trespassing and obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, Acryl Sani said an investigation has been opened.
He said action will be taken against those found to have violated the standard operating procedures under the National Recovery Plan.
Yesterday, Sg Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu, Bentong MP Wong Tack and Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji showed up at the Raub court complex in solidarity with the farmers, who were being remanded as part of investigations into claims they encroached on the Batu Talam Permanent Forest Reserve to grow Musang King durian trees. – The Vibes, July 6, 2021
