KUNDASANG – Sabah will receive 2.2 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines by August to reach the state’s target of 30,000 jabs per day.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said that one million doses of vaccine will arrive Sabah this month, and another 1.2 million doses next month.

The announcement means that there has been an increase of vaccines to Sabah from the 729,000 doses scheduled to arrive this month that was announced by Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun last Sunday (June 27).

Hajiji said he hopes the increase would speed up the immunisation process in the state, including the Mobile Outreach programme that aims to vaccinate rural folks without the MySejahtera app.

“With the increase of vaccines this month and next month, surely it would increase the vaccination rate in Sabah. We want to receive these vaccines as soon as possible,” he said.

The chief minister issued a statement on this matter after listening to a briefing on Covid-19 status as part of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme during his visit to Kundasang, Ranau today.

In Ranau, 21% of its population (16,425 people) received their first dose of vaccine, whilst 9.5% (7,419 people) received the second dose. The district has a population of 75,900 people aged 18 and above, and 33% (25,396 people) have registered for the vaccine.

During his visit, Hajiji also presented RM87,000 worth of aid in the form of RM300 one-off assistance and goods baskets to mountain guides, as well as two mock cheques to the Mount Kinabalu Guides Association and the Mount Kinabalu Porter Association, for the sum of RM30,000 and RM20,000 respectively. –The Vibes, July 8, 2021
