KUALA LUMPUR – The country’s daily Covid-19 caseload today rises to a fresh record of 17,786 infections, making for a total of 1,113,272 since the pandemic erupted.

Selangor sees a whopping 6,400 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,962) and Kedah (1,389).

Johor logged 1,144 infections, Sabah (1,035), Negri Sembilan (929), Terengganu (883), Perak (775), Penang (713), Melaka (697), Pahang (653), Kelantan (580) and Sarawak (485).

Putrajaya saw 116 cases, Perlis (16) and Labuan (9).

The Health Ministry also reported 165 coronavirus fatalities, pushing up the toll to 9,024.

A staggering 1,062 patients are in intensive care, with 534 on ventilators.

Another 11,718 recoveries take the total to 914,639.

As for the nation's infectivity rate or R0, the value currently stands at 1.12 nationally.

Terengganu and Kelantan recorded the highest R0 at 1.29, followed by Sabah (1.25), Kedah (1.22), Perak (1.22), Johor (1.18), Penang (1.18), Putrajaya (1.16), Pahang (1.13), Kuala Lumpur (1.12), Selangor (1.08), Sarawak (1.05), and Melaka (1.03).

Negri Sembilan is the only state to record a value below one, at 0.9, while Labuan and Perlis registered an R0 of zero.

The Health Ministry also reported 1,106 active clusters, with 28 new ones identified today.

13 of the clusters involve worksites in Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Perak, where 487 infections were registered in total.

12 community clusters were identified by the ministry in Selangor, Kelantan, Sabah, Perak, Sarawak and Kedah, with a total of 192 infections.

Only one cluster detected was linked to religious gatherings and it was found in Sabah with a total of 53 Covid-19 cases.

There was also one cluster involving high-risk individuals, found in Johor and registering six infections, and a detention centre cluster in Selangor with 61 infections. – The Vibes, July 31, 2021
