KUALA LUMPUR – Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun today denied issuing a letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin notifying the latter that his government had lost its parliamentary majority.

Azhar said the allegations contained in a report published by a local news portal today was false.

“I refute the report and I want to say that I have never issued any letter to the prime minister as reported. It is fake news,” he said in a statement here today.

Suara.TV news portal reported earlier today that Azhar as the speaker of the lower house had informed the prime minister of the matter.

The link for the news report, which went viral on social media, however, is no longer accessible.

Azhar also denied issuing a statement on the latest status of MPs supporting the prime minister, as contained in a document that went viral on social media.

“The document is fake. I never issued such a statement to any party,” he said in a separate statement.

He stressed that official Dewan Rakyat matters are conducted via certain communications channels with the relevant parties only.

“I have never and will never reveal any official communications.” – Bernama, August 11, 2021
