KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been summoned by the PKR leadership to provide a detailed explanation over the decision to degazette land from the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve.
According to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the decision was made despite objections by the party and the Selangor state assembly.
“I am informed that the Selangor state assembly has rejected the proposal. I would like to emphasise that this decision was not made known to the party leadership.
“In fact, the PKR leadership had since last year told the menteri besar to cancel the project,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
The Port Dickson MP also said that Amirudin has been asked to provide a detailed explanation over the matter in a meeting with party leaders tomorrow.
The decision by the Selangor state government to degazette the forest only became known after question time at the state assembly yesterday.
This move would allow 537ha from the 991ha of forest to be used for commercial purposes.
Not all of the forest has been degazetted, as Selangor exco member in charge of tourism, environment, and green technology Hee Loy Sian told the state legislature that the government took objections into account.
He added that the government will gazette three other parcels of forests in Sg Panjang, Ampang Pecah and Broga as forest reserve land to replace the excised portions of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve. – The Vibes, August 31, 2021
