KUALA LUMPUR – Ketari assemblyman Young Syefura Othman’s team has lodged a police report after allegedly receiving sexually explicit messages on Thursday via Facebook Messenger.

“I often receive messages mixed with pornography, but this time I consider it too rude and outrageous. This time it is very disturbing not only to me, but also to my officers who read the messages. It’s so disgusting.”

Young Syefura is also Wanita DAP’s assistant secretary.

The report was filed by her personal assistant Noor Suhana Ishak at the Setapak police station at about 10.35am on Friday.

In the report seen by The Vibes, Noor Suhana said she was heading home from work when she read the messages directed to Young Syefura.

Noor Suhana said it was sent by an individual named “Hafizzul Fitri” who is not known by either Young Syefura or Noor Suhana.

In light of the report, the Tampil Bersuara community group has called for police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take firm action on sexual harassment issues similar to such incidents.

“We commend the actions of the Ketari rep, who is seen as aggressive in defending the dignity of women by taking action against the perpetrators in addressing the issue of sexual harassment.

“Whoever the perpetrator is, the individual needs to be brought to justice for deliberately putting emotional and psychological pressure on women out there. Without firm action from the authorities, more and more perpetrators will be free to do this arbitrarily.”

The group also offered to assist Young Syefura and her officers involved if needed. – The Vibes, September 4, 2021
