BUTTERWORTH – A 29-year-old cow herder was charged over a brutal rape and murder in Jawi last month by the magistrates’ court here today.

The court did not record any plea from the accused, M. Kirubakaran, after the charge was read before magistrate Aziana Azib.

According to the charge sheet, he is alleged to have committed the murder and caused the death of Lee Ling Tee, 40, at Taman Seruling Emas Sg Bakap, Jawi, between 3am and 4am on August 28.

He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Apart from murder, Kirubakaran was also charged with two counts of injecting drugs into his body, namely, methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Both offences come under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail, if convicted.

He pleaded guilty to the two drug related charges.

The court then ruled that no bail was given to the accused and the case would be mentioned again on November 8 to examine the post-mortem and pathology report.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Nurameera Shahrul Azrin, while the accused was not represented.

Earlier, The Vibes had reported that a woman was raped and sodomised before her body was hidden under a bed in her home at Taman Seruling Emas, Sg Bakap, Jawi.

The grisly discovery was made when the victim’s friend went to her house about 3pm after she failed to show up for a meeting.

The suspect was arrested in Changkat Sg Jawi about 9pm, three hours after police launched a manhunt for him.

It is alleged he admitted to having taken syabu before breaking into the victim’s home at 3am. – The Vibes, September 7, 2021
