GEORGE TOWN – Pakatan Harapan’s Parti Amanah Nasional is open to working with rival PAS if it helps the country from sliding into a political abyss, said Amanah vice-president Datuk Mujahid Yusuf Rawa.
“In such times, it is best we drop all political egos and focus on the national ego. Foremost is the survival of the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on the economy.”
Mujahid, who is also Parit Buntar MP, said the present government lacks clout and understanding to move forward the country, and decides to play politics.
When it failed, the government wanted to remain in power at all costs through an emergency decree, he added.
Amanah is a PAS splinter party that supported Pakatan Harapan in 2017.
Speaking to The Vibes, Mujahid said Malaysians are grateful to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for his wisdom to lower the political temperature and focus on the real threat – Covid-19.
Mujahid said the Parliament remains the only appropriate platform to resolve an ineffective governance.
He added Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun must realise the urgency of the matter to allow a motion of no confidence to be tabled.
So far, more than 30 no-confidence motions have been submitted by various MPs.
“But the speaker is citing a Standing Order that the government bills are to be tabled first. But we are in a new normal now.”
Mujahid said the parliamentarians are expected to press Azhar on the no-confidence motions during the coming sitting.
He added that the prime minister’s majority support must be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
“Also at no point Pakatan Harapan representatives would sabotage the government over the budget. We would be wise in thinking about the needs of the country over our own.” – The Vibes, October 27, 2020
