ALOR STAR – A downpour in four Kedah districts has forced the authorities to set up temporary  flood relief centres since yesterday evening, and more than 300 people have been placed in them since.

According to a statement by the Civil Defence Force, non-stop rain hit Baling, Sik, Yan, Gurun and Kuala Muda, starting yesterday evening, with residents in the low-lying areas forced to look for temporary shelter.

Seven flood relief centres were set up in Baling to shift 210 flood victims from 66 families.

They were placed at SK Tunku Putra, SK Siong, SK Bandar, SK Tg Bari, SK Bayu, SK Banggol Derum and SK Titi Gantong.

A total of 61 people from 151 families placed at SK Gulau in Sik will return home once floodwaters recede.

No victims from Yan and Kuala Muda were placed at flood relief centres as water there rapidly receded in both districts.

However, residents were advised to keep an eye on weather conditions and to be prepared to head to relief centres should a downpour occur again. – The Vibes, September 30, 2021
