KUALA LUMPUR – Over two months after first submitting its application to the Registrar of Societies (RoS), and multiple attempts later, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang party is still awaiting its official registration.
Pejuang establishment committee secretary-general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah said the party has submitted seven applications to date, none of which have been responded by RoS or the Home Ministry.
He said the delay in approving Pejuang’s application only raises suspicions of government interference.
Amiruddin said this is unlike registrations made by other parties, citing the “immediate approval” given to Perikatan Nasional (PN) last month and the official registration of Malaysian Makkal Sakthi Party after two weeks in 2009, as examples.
“Until today, there are no signs that Pejuang will be approved,” he said in a statement today.
“As such, Pejuang’s pro-tem committee would like to once again urge the Home Minister and RoS director-general to make an immediate and clear decision so the party can be approved, according to the law.
“Three months without any written reply is unreasonable, and indirectly indicates that RoS has once again become the ‘government’s tool’ with political motives, to a point of raising people’s suspicion,” he added.
Pejuang’s first written application to RoS was made on August 19, while its latest bid to get registered came on October 22, when the party requested permission to use its logo and website, pending registration approval.
Pejuang was formed by Dr Mahathir after he was unceremoniously removed from his former party Bersatu, which itself was set up by the former prime minister. – The Vibes, October 29, 2020
