KUALA LUMPUR – Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s marital status became a topic of discussion in Dewan Negara yesterday after he was quizzed on rumours that he has married local celebrity Erra Fazira.

Faizal, who is also Tambun MP, was forced to address the issue after Bersatu senator Datuk Razali Idris brought it up.

Despite objections by Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Rais Yatim on the basis that the question is “personal” and outside the scope of governmental matters, Razali defended his move by saying it involves the youth and social media.

Despite Rais’ objections, Faizal responded in a bemused manner, saying: “I have only been married once and I am very happy with my wife and children.”

“In my 51 years, this is the first time I have received such a question.”

Meanwhile, social media users expressed their distaste that the matter was raised in the Dewan Negara, with many saying the topic has no place in the upper house.

Recently, speculation on the “marriage” had been rife after a Twitter account alleged that Erra had become Faizal’s second wife.

User @abam_kumis alleged that “valid information” was obtained from a neighbour of the rumoured couple.

“From what I’ve heard, Erra Fazira is now the second wife of Faizal Azumu. Does the first wife know about this?” he wrote, inciting others to dig deeper into the matter.

Erra took to Instagram yesterday to address the matter.

“What is all this? People keep talking about some marriage. Anyways, people love to talk so let them have fun talking,” she wrote. – The Vibes, October 12, 2021
