KUALA LUMPUR – The government is set to build a religious secondary school in Labuan for a whopping RM65 million under Budget 2022.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the construction of the school is part of the RM1.5 billion allocated for the management and development of Islamic affairs under the Prime Minister’s Department.
“Under the Islamic education umbrella, the government will expand the scope of takmir teaching under the Islamic Development Deparment (Jakim) to government agencies such as the Prisons Department, National Anti-Drug Agency and Social Welfare Department by adding 1,000 takmir teachers.”
The government, he said, will provide an one-off payment of RM500 each for the benefit of 70,000 people, comprising imam, bilal, siak, noja, marbut, takmir, and Quran and fardu ain (Kafa) teachers.
“The government will continue to strengthen wakaf as an instrument of wealth redistribution for the economic development of the ummah.
“To produce more farmers and halal industry entrepreneurs and help them in the event of a disaster, the government will channel a start-up fund of RM10 million to start the Wakaf Halal SME, Agriculture Wakaf and Disaster Wakaf initiatives.
“Corporate companies and individuals are welcome to endow their assets into this fund,” he added.
The RM1.5 billion allocation for Islamic affairs is an increase of RM100 million from Budget 2021. – The Vibes, October 29, 2021
