KUCHING – There is no power struggle or infighting to grab leadership in Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) since the demise of party chief Tan Sri James Jemut Masing on Sunday.
Top party leaders and members said they are standing together united and dignified as they mourn the passing of their president.
Party secretary-general Datuk Janang Bungsu said this to clarify a report in The Vibes yesterday that the demise of Masing has triggered jostling among top party leaders out to grab the leadership role.
He stressed that he has been in constant touch with PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Salang, and in fact they both went together to see Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg yesterday.
He added that Salang has explained that he merely said that he will be “assuming” the duty of the president and “covering” the role due to the void left by the passing of Masing.
"I did not contest what Salang said,” Bungsu said to The Vibes.
“I just clarified that we in the (PRS) supreme council did not discuss anything about party leadership as we are focused on assisting the family, especially Puan Sri Corrine Masing (Masing’s wife), during this difficult moment.
“At this moment in time, there is no intention to call for a meeting. This must not be misconstrued as infighting among the leaders of PRS,” he clarified.
Asked if netizens had berated party leaders for starting a “fight” for the leadership so soon after the passing of the president, he said: “I do not know where this came from.”
“Perhaps it’s from some irresponsible people on social media who are out to put the party and its leaders in a bad light.”
Janang reiterated that the party members are holding themselves well and rubbished talk of infighting in the party. – The Vibes, November 2, 2021
