KANGAR – Perlis, the country’s smallest state, is the only one to have preserved its green zone status, despite the current third wave of the highly communicable Covid-19.
As the number of total cases shot up to 32,505 as of Sunday with over 10,000 active cases nationwide, tiny Perlis – with a population of around 245,000 – has zero cases as of now.
Their record has even earned praise from Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who posted on social media that Perlis deserves accolades for not having any fresh infections in the past month.
In the past two weeks of the incubation period, the state has steered clear of Covid-19 and the authorities want to keep it that way, with firm instructions to residents to uphold the standard operating procedures (SOP).
Since October 20, the Perlis Health Department director Dr Sirajuddin Hashim says the number of cases have become stagnant at 38, of which 36 recovered fully while two died.
Sirajuddin urged the people to refrain from visiting red zone areas.
Regent of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail has always been at the forefront of reminding his subjects to heed the precautions.
He wants the people to fully embrace the SOP.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin’s heartfelt message was to “Think Red, Protect Green."
He pleaded for the people to act like Covid-19 was still around so that the people to maintain the state's green zone status.
The regent made such a plea when he inspected the construction of a new court complex in Seriab recently.
Meanwhile, Indera Kayangan assemblyperson Gan Ay Ling also shared with The Vibes that the main behaviour pattern here since Covid-19 arrived, was to refrain from travelling and to personally build up their immunity levels.
Gan, who has mooted a cycling club here, said that the people here are also careful about travelling out of the state. - The Vibes, November 2, 2020
