KUALA LUMPUR – The police have arrested former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam yesterday for allegedly making a seditious statement on Facebook.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (Investigation and Law) Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the arrest when contacted today.

It is learned that Lokman was arrested by a police team at a restaurant near the Putra World Trade Centre here at about 11 pm yesterday and is in remand for a day.

A statement by the Director of the Criminal Investigations Datuk Huzir Mohamed explained that Lokman used criminally intimidating and uncouth language against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. 

"On November 1, investigations were initiated over a video uploaded by Facebook user Lokman Noor Adam for use of criminally intimidating and uncouth language against the prime minister's leadership," Huzir said. 

It is understood that the investigations are conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code for intimidation, and Section 233 of Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour. – Bernama, November 2, 2020.
