KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has outlined “firmness” and “honesty” of Melaka’s administration among its six key pledges, should the coalition win in the upcoming polls, according to coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Launching PN’s election pledges at a golf resort in Shah Alam this evening, Muhyiddin said a steadfast administration is among the important pillars for the planning of all strategies in Melaka.
He said the state’s civil service will be consolidated through digitisation and direct engagement with the people.
“This consolidation also involves governance with efficiency and integrity for public agencies and government-owned companies,” he said.
“This is an important aspect of a state government administration that is based on efficiency, transparency, and accountability, which all form the basis of good government administration or good governance.”
Also present at the event were PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad, Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, and Bersatu vice-president Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.
Muhyiddin said he believes Melakans are very flustered by media reports of various allegations of misconduct and misappropriation of state coffers by “greedy” and “irresponsible” parties.
“This election is an opportunity for the people of Melaka to rectify this situation. The people of Melaka must take bold steps to make a difference,” he said.
“There is no point in handing over the state government’s leadership to those who we know will continue the habits of being power-hungry and greedy (and serving the interests) of certain groups and themselves.
“Melaka’s coffers must be managed with honesty, trust, and integrity, so that it results in prosperity that can be enjoyed by all citizens, regardless of race and religion.”
Muhyiddin said with the election motto of “Melaka Bangkit Gemilang” (Melaka rises to glory), PN made its pledge based on six core pillars driven by 11 strategies and 74 approaches.
Aside from a more transparent administration, the pillars comprise economic integrity, concern for the people, tourism sector planning, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure efficiency.
Muhyiddin said the economic pillar will focus on strategic and high-impact industries, and the digitisation and development of micro, small and medium enterprises.
“With the economic spillover (from our initiatives), there will be more quality and high-income employment opportunities offered to the people of Melaka,” he said.
“This includes TVET (technical and vocational education and training) graduates, people with disabilities, as well as retirees who still want to serve.”
The promises that Muhyiddin announced include a one-off payment of RM200 for tahfiz, Fardhu Ain, Kafa, and kindergarten teachers in schools administered by the Melaka Islamic Religious Department, as well as another RM200 one-off assistance for each child born this year. – The Vibes, November 14, 2021
