BUKIT MERTAJAM – A quirky banner at a pet shop here has caught the attention of passers-by and social media users.

Instead of promoting his business, the banner carries the words “tak tau nak print apa, elakkan sinaran matahari je” (don’t know what to print, it’s just a shade against the sun).

Shop operator Kelvin Lim, 32, told The Vibes that the banner is being used to keep the sun away from his goldfish at his shop in Jalan Arumugam Pillai here.

“At the time, I asked my colleague, ‘What do we want to write on this banner?’

“And they said, just write the truth that we want to shield the store from the sun. Without thinking hard, I immediately ordered the banner, and it was the right decision for us.”

The banner has been up since February.

In a twist, the banner went viral after TikTok user “nighttraveller_” shared it on the platform.

The video was posted on TikTok last week and has been watched more than 100,000 times.

Lim, who has been in business for the past three years, said he was happy that his shop was now popular and the banner well-received.

He added that he often received questions from customers who were puzzled by the banner and often found it amusing.

“From the comments on social media, many are amused, and I feel entertained.

“Indirectly, this banner also helps people relieve stress.” – The Vibes, November 22, 2021
