KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has suggested to Dewan Rakyat speaker to introduce periodic Covid-19 testing for those attending the six-week sitting.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the suggestion has been tabled to the speaker for approval and now awaiting his answer to the matter.
“MPs and officers entering the Parliament could still be exposed to the virus elsewhere, hence we suggested for them to undergo periodic testing, as the session goes on for six weeks,” he said in a press briefing today.
Meanwhile, he said there is a possibility of tightening the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur as they are densely populated areas with high mobility.
“We are thinking of letting the economic sector continue to run as it is but enhancing measures in the social sector so mobility will be reduced as much as possible.”
He added that two new clusters have been identified by the ministry today.
“The Cergas cluster involves the Seremban district in Negri Sembilan. The index case reported symptoms on October 29 and 12 cases have been identified so far.”
On the other hand, the Permatang cluster involves the Kulim district in Kedah and three districts in Penang mainland.
“The index case in the Permatang cluster suffered from severe acute respiratory infection and was admitted to a private hospital before being transferred to intensive care in Penang Hospital,” he said.
He added that eight cases have been identified in this cluster as a result of close contact tracing. – The Vibes, November 3, 2020
