KUALA LUMPUR – The Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) is being rebranded as the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) in line with its expanded mandate to ensure all Malaysians are trained and employable.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is slated to officiate the launch of HRD Corp this Thursday as part of the government’s effort to enhance the agency’s role.
With the rebranding, HRD Corp will not only collect levies for the purposes of upskilling and reskilling employees, but also function as a corporate body that ensures the national agenda for human capital development remains on track.
Ahead of the launch, HRD Corp – which falls under the purview of the Human Resources Ministry – has also expanded training and development programmes for Malaysians from all backgrounds over the past 18 months.
Furthermore, the agency has introduced a series of strategic initiatives that are focused on job matching and placement opportunities, as well as income-generating programmes for a wider target group.
The new efforts are aimed at reducing the unemployment rate in the country, apart from providing assistance to those who had their incomes affected due to Covid-19.
With the expansion of roles, the rebranding of HRDF to HRD Corp reflects the organisation’s new direction in further pursuing the development of Malaysian talent.
The launch on Thursday will be held alongside a two-day exhibition – held from 10am to 5pm on Thursday and Friday – that will showcase strategic products, services and initiatives from a variety of ministries.
Among the displays and activities at the exhibition, which is a free event and open to the public, there will be information sharing on training and upskilling programmes by HRD Corp, its strategic partners and other ministries.
Additionally, the exhibition will include career talks by the HRD Corp Placement Centre and walk-in interviews, as well as forums featuring speakers who are industry experts on the future workforce.
One of the forums lined up for the event includes a talk entitled “The 2030 Workforce: Balancing Three Symbiotic Elements; Work, Workers and Workplace”, which is moderated by Sarveen Kandiah, the managing director of OpenLearning (Southeast Asia).
Panellists of this forum consist of Deloitte Malaysia chief executive Yee Wing Peng, LinkedIn head of talent and learning solutions (Malaysia & Vietnam) Irene Ong, and Thriving Talents founder Michael Teoh Su Lim.
Those who attend the exhibition will also stand a chance to win a variety of prizes.
