MIRI – The main opposition parties in Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) are making last-ditch effort to reach a consensus that would unite them to fight the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Sources told The Vibes today that there are hopeful signs of such a consensus being reached before nomination or polling day.
“Yes, we are talking about it,” state PKR vice-chairman Dr Teo Yu Keng said, adding that the leaders of the parties will have to confirm and announce if and when the terms are agreed upon.
“It will be for the top bosses to say if any agreement is reached,” said the Miri MP and Sarawak PH deputy chairman.
He did not disclose further details on the discussions.
Sarawak PH is made up of PKR, DAP and Amanah.
It is learnt that within the coalition, PKR and DAP are trying hard to reach common terms of cooperation in several “hot seats”.
These seats, such as in Miri, are where both parties feel they can win.
It is revealed that PSB may have better chances of winning a sizable number of rural and semi-rural seats based on pre-election observations by both PH and PSB.
“PKR may combine its strength with PSB in these seats,” said a source.
Sarawak PH has already announced it is contesting all 82 state constituencies.
PSB said it had identified at least 72 seats it is intending to run.
GPS has meanwhile also announced it will contest in all 82 seats, of which it presently controls 68.
Nomination is on December 6 and balloting will be on December 18. – The Vibes, December 3, 2021
