MIRI – As Sarawak enters its election campaigning period, more residents in the Kuching district continue to be evacuated from their flooded homes.

A heavy and continuous downpour has forced 122 individuals in Kg Moyang, Kg Bako, and Kg Sg Batu to evacuate as of 9am today.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat said two temporary flood relief centres – the Surau Ar Rahman hall and Kg Buntal community hall – have been set up in the affected district.

The centres are set to shelter flood victims until further notice.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has continued to deploy its personnel to flooded sectors.

The campaigning period for the 12th state election has been marred by heavy rain showers in various parts of the state, with Kuching and Samarahan as the most affected districts.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department said Sarawak will likely see more rain today, with the weather also expected to be rainy in numerous interior localities. – The Vibes, December 7, 2021
