KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has recorded 86 new Covid-19 cases in temporary flood relief centres (PPS) today, bringing the total to 267 infections.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 86 new cases recorded (as at noon today), 75 cases were detected through screenings prior to entry into the centres, while 11 others were existing cases who were undergoing quarantine when they were evacuated from flooded areas.

“So far, there have not been any Covid-19 cases that occurred among victims in the PPS,” he said in a statement.

He added that the 86 patients have been separated from the other flood victims.

“Nine of them have been placed at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang quarantine and treatment centre 2.0, 12 are in hospital, 62 are under quarantine in the PPS, and three are quarantined at home.”

Other than Covid-19, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry recorded 203 acute respiratory tract infections, 73 skin infections, 19 cases of food poisoning, 12 cases of fever, two cases of chickenpox, and 55 other infectious illnesses involving flood victims at the centres.

He said that however, there has not been reports of conjunctivitis, typhoid, cholera, hand, foot and mouth disease, leptospirosis, or dengue cases in the centres so far.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said, the country logged a total of 3,140 fresh cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the overall figure to 2,724,684.

He said the country saw 4,278 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,642,469.

The ministry’s CovidNow website also stated 43 deaths today, including eight that were brought in dead.

Dr Noor Hisham said 353 cases are currently under intensive care, with 189 requiring breathing assistance.

Of the 3,140 cases seen today, he said 3,076 (98%) are in Categories 1 and 2, while only 64 cases (2%) are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, he said.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the country saw four new clusters today, bringing the total number of clusters to 6,086 since the start of the pandemic.

He added that 247 clusters remain active, while 5,839 clusters have ended. – The Vibes, December 21, 2021
