KOTA KINABALU – The number of evacuees in six flood-hit Sabah districts stood at 3,365 people today, with the interiors of Kota Marudu having 2,659 flood victims relocated to 14 relief centres.
At 8pm, the Civil Defence Force reported that the number of displaced people was on a downward trend as the Meteorological Department forecast strong winds and rough seas to end today.
Apart from Kota Marudu, the other five districts affected by the recent monsoon surges that hit Sabah since Christmas Eve last year are Pitas, Beluran, Sandakan, Telupid, and Paitan.
The number of evacuees in Pitas currently stands at 307 people in four evacuation centres, with Telupid seeing 216 victims in seven evacuation centres, Paitan with 99 victims in three evacuation centres, Sandakan with 46 victims, and 38 in Beluran.
The Civil Defence Force earlier noted that the number of victims is expected to climb in the late afternoon as evacuation and relief efforts are still being carried out.
At 4pm today, the number of victims stood at 3,318 individuals involving 1,319 households, compared to 3,310 evacuees at 2pm. – The Vibes, January 4, 2022
