JOHOR BARU – The Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a managing director of a company and an engineer for allegedly submitting false claims worth more than RM250,000 for a temporary bridge construction project in Segamat six years ago.
According to a source, the men, aged 41 and 52, were picked up at the MACC office here about 7pm yesterday.
It is understood that between 2016 and 2020, the two individuals had conspired to submit false claims to a government department in Segamat for a temporary bridge construction project worth more than RM4 million, but the work mentioned in the claims had not been implemented.
Meanwhile, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrests when contacted.
The suspects will be brought to the Johor Baru magistrates’ court for a remand application this morning. – AFP, January 10, 2022
