KUALA LUMPUR – Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin confirmed that the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) will convene to discuss matters pertaining to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki. 

In a Facebook post today, Chan said the PSC on Agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department, which he is a member of, will be called to meet on January 19 at 2pm in Parliament. 

“The issue which will be discussed: ownership of shares by MACC’s chief commissioner,” Chan posted. 

The particular PSC is headed by PAS MP Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman, and includes Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Datuk Nizar Zakaria, Anyi Ngau, Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir, William Leong, Khoo Poay Tiong and Datuk Azis Jamman.

Earlier today, in an exclusive interview with Sinar Harian, Azam said he will not step down, adding that “the truth will prevail”.

Azam says that the only qualified individual that could end his tenure is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong himself.

As for why he took time to respond to the controversy, Azam said he will reveal the truth when the time is right, and as the nation’s highest-ranking graft buster, he has other work to attend to.

Currently, Azam pledges to surrender himself to enforcement personnel from MACC for investigations.

Yesterday, Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR) Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang told the press that he is willing to be removed from his post if his actions last week tarnished MACC’s reputation.

Abu Zahar said he will leave it up to the federal government and the king to decide his fate.

His statement comes after the remaining members of the LPPR refuted Abu Zahar’s claim that the board was satisfied with Azam’s claims that his account was used by his younger brother to purchase shares. – The Vibes, January 12, 2022
