KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s education and religious development programmes will be getting a RM164.12 million allocation in this year’s state budget, of which RM47 million is for non-Muslim religious bodies, as well as vernacular, mission and independent schools.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the funds will be channelled to the relevant government agencies, and religious and educational bodies as part of the state’s efforts to enhance the quality of human capital and people’s well-being.
“In line with the Keluarga Malaysia spirit, the allocation benefits all religions and races in the state,” he said at an aid presentation ceremony for vernacular and mission schools, churches and temples.
State Local Government and Housing and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun delivered Hajiji’s speech at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.
“The amount (RM47 million) is the biggest ever approved by the Sabah government and this reflects our sincerity to ensure the welfare of all races and religions is taken care of.”
Some RM1 million will be distributed to the state’s related associations and lion dance troupes in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.
“The presentation of financial assistance and lion heads clearly demonstrates the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s commitment to implement a fair and equitable policy.”
Last year, RM43 million was alloted for the non-Muslim religious bodies, and vernacular, mission and independent schools in Sabah.
In the same period last year, the state government approved a total of RM24.99 million for the construction and repair of non-Muslim houses of worship here. – The Vibes, January 13, 2022
