KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is calling upon all parties to work together in improving the nation’s corruption prevention efforts.

In a statement, the MACC addressed Malaysia’s fall in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) 2021 compared to its 2020 ranking.

Commenting on the matter, the commission says they view this drop very seriously.

“The MACC gives serious attention towards Malaysia’s score in the CPI 2021.

“With regard to that, MACC urges all parties to continue cooperating to improve our efforts to prevent corruption in the country.

“MACC will study Transparency International Malaysia’s (TI-M) comments on the CPI 2021 score and will provide recommendations soon.”

Earlier today, TI-M revealed that Malaysia ranked 62 in the CPI 2021 with a score of 28 among 180 countries, dropping five places.

Singapore was the sole Asian nation in the top 10.

Among the Asean countries, Malaysia is ranked third, behind Singapore and Brunei, but ahead of Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

TI-M president Muhammad Mohan said the changes in government, which happened in 2020 and 2021 brought forth a downward trend in Malaysia’s rankings. – The Vibes, January 25, 2022
