KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia reported 7,234 new Covid-19 cases over the last day, as daily figures shot up by more than 1,500 cases today.

Health Ministry (MoH) Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted the latest numbers, with the latest round of positive cases bringing the cumulative case load to 2,895,014 infections locally.

According to data on MoH’s CovidNow portal as of midnight last night, the Klang Valley, Selangor, and Johor remained the top three states in terms of number of new cases detected.

Yesterday, MoH reported 5,270 new infections, or 1,514 fewer cases, with the CovidNow portal showing November 16, 2021 as the last time numbers had breached 7,000 with 7,509 new infections then.

Dr Noor Hisham, in his full statement, said 234 infections from today’s tally were imported cases, with the remaining coming from local transmissions.

Across intensive care units nationwide, a total of 118 patients are being treated, 81 of which have been confirmed Covid-19 positive.

Of those patients, a total of 57 individuals are currently intubated, 34 of which are confirmed Covid-19 cases, while 23 others are suspected Covid-19 patients.

Additionally, Dr Noor Hisham said only 1% – or 73 cases – from today’s tally are within category three to five which require hospitalisation, while the remaining 7,161 are either with mild symptoms or are asymptomatic. — The Vibes, February 4, 2022
