MIRI – Sixteen people living together in a village house managed to escape unscathed following a pre-dawn fire today at Kg Tg Bako located 50km from Kuching.

All 16 individuals, consisting of four separate families, were living under the same roof in the house that was razed.

According to a spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre, the 2am fire completely gutted the house.

“Our fire station received an emergency alert early this morning that a house in Kg Tg Bako was on fire.

“We deployed our personnel from the Samarahan and Tabuan Jaya fire station to the site but had difficulties reaching the burning house as the path was very narrow.

“By the time our teams arrived, the house was already fully engulfed in flames.

“There were four families with 16 people in total living in that house consisting of nine adults and seven children.

“All of them escaped without injuries,” the spokesman added.

Firefighters took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

They also managed to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses located next to the burning house.

“Fire breakers were set to ensure that flames did not spread further as the houses are located in close proximity to each other.” – The Vibes, February 8, 2022
