KUALA LUMPUR – Youth-led Muda says PKR has yet to finalise the offer to make way for it to contest in another three Johor state seats, despite the state party chief’s announcement earlier tonight.

In a statement, Muda’s politburo said the three seats involved were not won or contested by PKR in the 2018 election.

It added that although it respected PKR’s right to defend its existing seats, the party has yet to confirm its decision on the three seats requested by Muda during a series of negotiations with Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties.

“Muda is confident and believes that in the spirit of togetherness and for the sake of the people of Johor, an honest and transparent negotiation must be held.

“Muda proposes that all details of the negotiations be kept confidential before they are announced to the media in the spirit of mutual transparency.”

In a statement earlier, Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said the party offered three state seats to Muda ahead of the March polls, following the cemented offers made by PH component parties DAP and Amanah.

“During the series of negotiations, everyone gave their opinions honestly and openly.

“After the negotiations, PKR is offering Muda three seats and now awaits the youth party’s response.”

PKR’s announcement means that the newly registered Muda will be contesting nine out of 56 seats in Johor if it accepts the offer.

This, however, falls short of one seat touted by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said Muda sought 10 state seats – one that Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had denied.

Earlier today, in a joint statement by DAP, Amanah and Muda said the young party would run for six seats.

The seats allocated for Muda are Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap, Puteri Wangsa and Bukit Permai. – The Vibes, February 9, 2022
