BUTTERWORTH – A total of 15 migrant workers were rushed to a hospital while eight others were given outpatient treatment after a bonded truck collided with a factory bus at 7.30pm yesterday at Taman Nagasari, near the Prai Industrial Estate.
Eyewitnesses told The Vibes that the bus was carrying 23 workers to their dormitories after their shift ended at night when the bonded truck came out of nowhere and slammed into it.
The impact caused the bus to fall on its side.
Some members of the public rushed to the scene and broke the bus’ window panes to help rescue the trapped workers.
Ambulances were called and factory vans nearby helped send the injured to Seberang Jaya Hospital about 4km away from the accident site.
Hospital sources said the injured patients are in stable condition.
Bus driver S. Rajendran suffered injuries to his left eye and both his legs. He is in stable condition for now while the truck driver has some minor injuries.
Rajendran’s daughter R. Geetha, when met at the hospital, said her father needs to undergo more checks and she was worried that he sustained internal injuries.
The factory also sent other staffers to assist the hospital in tending to the workers. – The Vibes, February 13, 2022
