JOHOR BARU – Warisan has confirmed that they will be fielding candidates in the Johor polls in March, marking the party’s electoral debut in Peninsular Malaysia.

At the launch of the Warisan Johor chapter tonight, party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Warisan wants to provide an alternative for Johoreans aside from the usual parties.

“With this, I would like to express our interest to contest in Johor,” he said in Johor Baru.

The Johor election is scheduled for March 12.

At a press conference later, Shafie said he will announce the number of seats and constituencies soon, adding, however, that the party was more focused on the upcoming 15th general election.

He also noted the poor performance of the opposition in the recent state elections, saying it is time for voters to be given an alternative.

On whether the party will be cooperating with others, he said the party discussed matters with Muda at the early stage but will now see how things pan out in the coming days.

“Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman came over to my house and spoke to us until around 12am this morning.

“He had told me about his move as he might change his mind, but I don’t dare to comment about Muda.

“We received many offers, but the reality is Warisan is now offering ourselves because we now know that Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, and also Barisan Nasional are no longer the people’s choice,” said Shafie, adding that the people are now tired of politicians.

Shafie said he has already concluded discussions with Muda, adding that the original plan was for Warisan to work with Muda to provide a choice for the voters.

Shafie also confirmed that he has met with Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Mazlan Bujang who indicated to him that he wishes to assist Warisan.

Mazlan left Bersatu on February 3.

He, however, refused to confirm whether Mazlan would be joining Warisan.

“We already have the Warisan machinery doing the work on the ground right now,” he said.

Also present were Warisan Johor chief coordinator Suhaimi Salleh, Selangor’s Teratai assemblyman Bryan Lai, former MIC central working committee member Datuk Sunther Subramaniam, Warisan vice-presidents Datuk Seri Jaujan Sambakong and Datuk Junz Wong and Warisan youth chief Datuk Azis Jamman. – The Vibes, February 15, 2022
