KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s latest 115 reported Covid-19 deaths is the highest daily toll since early October when the country had 132 victims on October 7.
The latest data bring the national death toll to 32,942 and of the new deaths, 36 are brought-in-dead.
Meanwhile, the country logged another 27,500 new cases as the cumulative total nears 3.5 million with 3,496,090 infections. This week, those aged 18-29 and 30-29 made up the most infections with 27.2% and 23.2 %, respectively.
According to CovidNow, there were zero new recoveries while new active cases stand at 27,385 and cumulatively at 321,036.
Nine new clusters have also been detected – four in the workplace, three in education, and two in high-risk groups. This brings the active clusters to 475 and the cumulative total to 6,798.
The new one with the most cases is the Kg Gaing education cluster in Rembau, Negri Sembilan with 38 cases and a positivity rate of 41.8%, while Penang’s Jalan Ooi Kar Seng education cluster has 25 infections with a positivity rate of 100%.
The other education cluster – Jalan Budiman 2 in Kuala Lumpur – has six fresh infections and a 9.5% positivity infection rate.
Johor Baru’s Jalan Istimewa 7 Cemerlang workplace cluster recorded 34 cases and a positivity rate of 55.7%, while its Jalan Padu Tampoi 3 workplace cluster has 11 cases.
Meanwhile, Kelantan’s Jalan Padang Tembak 3 workplace cluster in Kota Baru has 15 infections and Perak’s Jalan Gelung Pepuyu workplace cluster logged 24 cases.
As for high-risk groups, Negri Sembilan’s Kg Ayer Kundur cluster logged 36 cases with a 51.4% positivity rate, followed by Klang’s Jalan Serunai Satu cluster with 22 infections and a 95.7% positivity rate.
CovidNow also reported that 309,069 patients are under home quarantine, 3,425 are in low-risk treatment and quarantine centres while 8,182 remain in hospital.
Some 166 cases are in intensive care unventilated while 194 are on ventilators.
Selangor has consistently recorded the most new cases – 6,494 infections this time as of midnight – followed by Kedah (2,752), Penang (2,422), Sabah (2,236) and Kuala Lumpur (2,092).
States below the 2,000 mark are Johor (1,949), Kelantan (1,758), Perak (1,430), Negri Sembilan (1,373), Sarawak (1,357), Pahang (1,331), Terengganu (896), Melaka (664), Labuan (364), Perlis (211) and Putrajaya (171).
According to a statement by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, nine states have exceeded 50% of their ICU bed usage – Putrajaya (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (60%), Johor (59%), Kuala Lumpur (58%), Sabah (55%), Melaka (53%), Selangor (51%), and Penang (50%).
He added that the majority of the new cases (18,019) are in Category 2, followed by 9,292 in Category 1, 80 in Category 5, 71 in Category 3 and 38 in Category 4. – The Vibes, March 3, 2022
