KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has logged another highest daily Covid-19 caseload with 33,209 infections as cases surge in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kedah and Johor.

CovidNow data also shows another 78 reported deaths, of which 22 are brought-in-dead cases.

Currently, the cumulative caseload stands at 3,561,766, while the death toll is at 33,106.

The country also logged another 17 clusters, mostly education and workplace.

According to Health Ministry data, Selangor’s caseload remains the highest at 8,897, followed by Kuala Lumpur (4,105), Kedah (3,060), Penang (2,592), Johor (2,359) and Sabah (2,131).

States below the 2,000-mark are Negri Sembilan (1,679), Kelantan (1,572), Perak (1,544), Pahang (1,535), Sarawak (1,333), Terengganu (938), Melaka (741), Perlis (270), Labuan (266) and Putrajaya (187).

As for the death count, Sabah tops the list with 15 cases, followed by Kedah (12), Johor (11), Selangor (10), Penang (8), Perak (6), Pahang (4), Terengganu (3), and two each in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Negri Sembilan.

Kelantan, Melaka and Perlis each logged a single death, while Labuan and Putrajaya recorded zero deaths.

Meanwhile, there are 12 new education clusters, three in the workplace, and one at a detention centre, with one classified as a high-risk group. 

Penang’s Jalan Ara Kuda education cluster has the most cases with 76 infections and a positivity rate of 30.8%, followed by Kelantan’s Jalan Tanah Putih Galas education cluster with 34 cases and a positivity rate of 35.4%.

Melaka’s Lorong Tun Fatimah education cluster logged 23 cases, followed by Selangor’s multi-district Jalan Pos Baru education cluster with 22 cases, Johor’s Pura Kencana education cluster with 20 infections and Negri Sembilan’s Batu 17 Kundur education cluster with 18 cases as well as Selangor’s Dua Jalan Klinik education cluster with 11 cases.

Kuala Lumpur has four education clusters – Jalan Empat Segambut and Dua Jalan Kuchai Lama each with 8 cases; Jalan Datuk Abdul Razak (7) and Dua Jalan Bukit Nanas (6) – and one DTI Bukit Jalil 3 detention centre cluster with 13 infections.

Putrajaya also has an education cluster, Putra Sepuluh with six cases.

Negri Sembilan has two workplace clusters, namely Legong Jaya with 38 infections and Jalan Emas Satu Nilai 2 with 36 cases. Meanwhile, Johor’s Laman Setia Utama Tujuh workplace cluster recorded 30 cases.

Lastly, Perak’s Jalan Intan Tiga Kampar high-risk group cluster logged 15 cases.

CovidNow data also shows 292,696 cases are in home quarantine, 3,442 in low-risk treatment and quarantine centres, while 8,524 are hospitalised. Some 137 are in intensive care and 211 are on ventilators.

Three states with the highest ventilator usage are Perlis (86.2%), Kelantan (50.7%) and Terengganu (50%), while only Labuan logged below 50% for its hospital bed usage.

Melaka’s hospital bed utilisation is the highest at 80.3%, followed by Penang (79.6%), Perlis (79.3%) Pahang (77.6%), Kedah (77%), Terengganu (75.4%), Selangor (72.6%), Negri Sembilan (70.9%), Johor (67.9%), Sarawak (66.4%), Kelantan (66.1%), Perak (65.7%), Sabah (60.4%), Kuala Lumpur (56.4%) and Putrajaya (52.3%).

As for ICU bed usage, 11 states have exceeded 50% capacity with highest being Putrajaya with 80%, followed by Kelantan (72.2%), Johor (70.3%), Perlis (68.4%), Kuala Lumpur (67.7%), Selangor (66.8%), Perak (65.7%), Sabah (64.3%), Penang (63.5%), Terengganu (55.7%) and Melaka (54.3%). – The Vibes, March 5, 2022
