KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry recorded 28,298 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday, an increase of 1,764 cases from the 26,534 reported on Tuesday.

Of the new figure, 698 were imported cases. There are currently 299,331 active cases nationwide.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country stands at 3,900,433.

Yesterday also saw 105 deaths and 33,009 recoveries, pushing the total death toll to 34,099 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Twenty-nine of the deaths were classified as brought-in-dead cases.

At present, there are 7,832 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 374 are in intensive care.

The states and territories that recorded more than 2,000 new infections yesterday are Selangor (6,804), Kuala Lumpur (2,705), Kedah (2,409), Penang (2,358) and Johor (2,328).

States with cases ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 are Negri Sembilan (1,814), Sarawak (1,554), Pahang (1,413), Perak (1,382), Kelantan (1,233), and Terengganu (1,034).

The few states and territories that recorded fewer than 1,000 new cases are Sabah (842), Melaka (689), Perlis (182), Putrajaya (172) and Labuan (115).

Malaysia also recorded six new clusters today – the top being an education cluster known as Jalan Pantai Km 14, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, with 42 cases detected so far.
