KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri Umno delegates today urged the party’s main leadership to raise the age limit for membership of the wing from the current 35 years to 40.
According to Nur Farhana Ab Ghani, the head of Puteri Umno’s Kota Melaka division, the wing stands to lose hundreds of thousands of members if the proposed move is not implemented.
“In fact, if the election is held this year and Umno still does not increase the age limit of Puteri members to 40 years, we will lose 166,536 members of this wing.
“Please, please Tok Mat (deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan) look at this issue, raise the age limit of Puteri,” she said.
She said this at the Puteri Umno meeting debate held in conjunction with the Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre here today.
Her call received cheers from more than 900 members who attended the meeting, reported Getaran, the Malay-language sister portal of The Vibes.
At the same time, Nur Farhana said, professionals among Puteri members should be nominated in the 15th general election (GE15).
“Most importantly, they (professionals) can serve as strong opponents against other parties, especially Muda,” she said.
Commenting further, Nur Farhana said the atmosphere at the general assembly was different from recent years as Umno has been buoyed by Barisan Nasional’s (BN) landslide victory in the Johor election on March 12.
She said that the success was not only for the coalition, but also for all others who have been with Umno and BN to fight for the party and the people.
“Never forget the bitterness of past defeats, so that we do not forget and be complacent. It is a catalyst for the spirit to continue to work hard and help the community as long as possible,” she said. – The Vibes, March 17, 2022
