GEORGE TOWN – Seven umrah pilgrims who arrived at the Penang International Airport yesterday have been quarantined in their homes after testing positive for Covid-19.
Speaking to The Vibes, Penang Health, Agro-tech, Food Security and Rural Development Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin said health authorities are scrutinising international travellers entering through Penang International Airport since April 1.
“Penang has registered a total of 457 cases yesterday, in which 12 cases involved foreigners, 271 cases were through social screening, 65 cases were self-screened, 10 cases were reported at the workplace and the remaining seven were infected by other means,” she said.
The PKR lawmaker said the state has recorded a total of 4,057 new cases over the past week with 589 Delta variant cases, 59 Omicron variant cases and 10 Beta variant cases.
“We have also identified one education institution and two high-risk groups active clusters in the state, and we failed to record any cases from construction sites, work place, community and religious clusters.” she added.
Meanwhile, the number of cases in Kedah has dropped from 3,000 cases to 500 cases over the last week.
Its Health Department director Dr Othman Warijo told The Vibes that the state recorded less than 500 daily cases for a week and that the bed and intensive care unit occupancy rate has gone below 30%.
Kedah now has 5,731 active cases, with an accumulation of 291,018 cases, currently 226 people hospitalised, with a record of 2,583 deaths including four deaths registered yesterday. – The Vibes, April 6, 2022.
