KUALA LUMPUR – Johor PKR Wanita chief Napsiah Khamis Maharan has set her sights on the national wing’s number two post, saying that the party needs to return to the drawing board to come up with a blueprint to clearly outline its struggles.

Napsiah garnered national recognition after clashing with Muda over the Puteri Wangsa seat last month and subsequently lost in PKR’s bid for the Kempas seat afterwards.

She said in a statement that her work with civil society and in politics gives her confidence that she will be able to contribute to the party as well as be an asset.

She added that there is a trust deficit when it comes to PKR as shown in its performance in the last four state elections – Sabah, Melaka, Sarawak and Johor.

“I feel this phenomenon is a temporary setback as I’m confident that PKR and Pakatan Harapan will be able to bounce back and win the hearts of the people.”

Last month, senator Fadhlina Sidek made public her candidacy for the wing’s top position.

Currently, the post is held by Selangor’s Batu Tiga assemblywoman Rodziah Ismail but she has yet to announce her candidacy.

PKR polls are slated for May 13-17 for in-person voting and May 18-20 for online balloting. – The Vibes, April 10, 2022
