KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has suspended the conditional approvals for two brands of Covid-19 test kits, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

On Twitter, the health minister said the suspension involved the colloidal gold saliva test kit manufactured by Anhui Deepblue Medical Technology Co Ltd, and the nasal swab tests from Xiamen Wiz Biotech Co Ltd, which are both companies from China.

Both kits are distributed locally by Innovac Technology and Conan Medial Technology Bhd, respectively.

In the post, Khairy shared a screenshot of the two products, which said that the suspension by the ministry’s Medical Device Authority (MDA) is imposed with immediate effect.

MDA, in the image, had also advised the public against buying or using the kits as they did not comply with standards and were deemed “unsafe” for use.

“I have received several complaints regarding Covid-19 test kits in the market,” Khairy said.

He said MDA has conducted tests on a total of 22 brands, of which the results of 12 have been received.

He said MDA found that two of the kits did not meet the performance levels that have been set by the ministry. – The Vibes, April 11, 2022
