KUALA LUMPUR – Three men have been charged for their involvement in an armed robbery that was captured on video and went viral in late March.

Cheras police chief Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the two were charged under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for committing gang and armed robbery.

He added that a third individual was charged under Section 412 for possessing stolen items, with the trio all charged in court here.

“This is a stern warning by the police to the public not to get involved in any activities that go against the law,” he said in a statement.

The incident took place on the morning of March 26, at a housing area in Bandar Tun Razak, where a senior citizen was robbed by two individuals on a motorcycle after being threatened with a machete.

In the video, the culprits can be seen yanking what appears to be a bracelet from the victim’s wrists before fleeing on their vehicle.

Idzam said investigations led to the arrest of five individuals before police received instructions from the deputy public prosecutor to only charge the three. – The Vibes, April 29, 2022
