GEORGE TOWN – Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmakers must reveal how they each spend the allocation by the federal government, said Penang Warisan coordinator Max Goh Choon Keong.
The equal allocation for government and opposition MPs was among one of the reforms in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the federal government and PH.
“I think each MP in the country was given up to RM1 million to spend in their respective constituencies. What did they do with the funding?” he asked at the opening of the Warisan service centre in Bayan Baru.
He added that PH needs to be transparent over the items outlined in the MoU, failing which it should dissolve the agreement.
Meanwhile, the centre was launched by Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong.
“People always ask us why we are expanding to the peninsula when Warisan is a Sabah-based party. The answer is simple – there is no race or religious divide in our state and we think Malaysians deserve something similar so they can coexist well with each other.”
He added that Penang has leaders in support of the same idea, so Warisan wants to join forces with like-minded politicians here.
“The opening of this service centre marks a belief that Warisan is here to stay in Penang, and it can win. We are not here to make up the numbers.”
Party insiders believe that it is gearing up to run in 10 parliamentary and 14 state seats.
Wong said Warisan will no longer be dragged into political uncertainties such as the tiff between Barisan Nasional and PH, preferring to showcase itself as a viable alternative that focuses on bread-and-butter issues.
Aside from Goh, who is a former Penang DAP assistant organising secretary, Penang Warisan is headed by former DAP stalwarts – veteran politician Datuk Danny Law Heng Kiang, former Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, and former DAP administrator Martin Lim.
