KOTA KINABALU – Sabah has recorded a surge in food poisoning cases during the recent month of Ramadan, specifically for the period between April 3 and May 1.
Sabah Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said a total of 189 individuals got food poisoning in 10 clusters reported statewide.
Two of the clusters involved Ramadan bazaars, she said.
“The majority of them are in stable condition and have received treatment. None of them are hospitalised,” said Rose Nani, adding that most of the cases were caused by contaminated food and unhygienic food handling.
“The state Health Department had initiated an integrated operation in the bazaar stalls during the fasting month.
“Aside from this, acute gastroenteritis surveillance had been actively done to monitor infected diseases caused by water and food,” she said in a statement here today.
Rose Nani also noted that between January 1 and May 4, only one cholera case had been detected in the east coast district if Semporna. – The Vibes, May 6, 2022
