NIBONG TEBAL – The family from Taman Cenderawasih who suffered burns during an explosion that blew up their house on Sunday night was subjected to another devastating blow after being robbed of cash, handbags and jewellery that were kept in the house.
The house owner, S. Rekha, 44, told The Vibes that she had asked a close family friend to go to the house and look for the items but they were discovered to have gone missing.
Stopping short of revealing the value of the items and amount of cash taken, Rekha said they may have been taken by looters who were at the house searching for valuable items among the debris.
“I will be making a police report over the matter, as I have lost our hard-earned money and items,” she said.
Rekha’s daughters, aged 21 and 14, as well as her sister’s 6-year-old son, were injured during the incident.
The 6-year-old’s twin escaped without injuries.
Rekha, as well as her husband T, Guru, 48, and the rest of the family returned home at about 9.30pm when the explosion occurred.
The 6-year-old boy has been warded at the intensive care unit, while Rekha’s two daughters and her sister, who suffered 25% burns, were admitted to normal ward.
They were reported to be in stable condition.
The Fire and Rescue Department and a police bomb squad have conducted investigations to establish the cause of the explosion that had also damaged three neighbouring houses in the area.
Attempts to reach district police officers for comments have so far been unsuccessful. – The Vibes, May 10, 2022
